Editing and Learning - Vanessa Ortiz

Hello! I'm back again. It's my second week here at ETV and I have to say, I've already learned a lot.  This week I helped in the post production of the program we taped last week called Climate Change: A Global Reality. It was really interesting to see how a program shapes itself throughout the editing process and how many decisions have to be made before the final product is done. The producers get together in the editing room and start going through the tape to see where they can add some images,  B-rolls or just improve the audio quality. I had the opportunity to sit with them along with one other intern to see this interesting process and learn how these decisions are made. Everything has to run smoothly and synchronize, and that's sometimes the hardest thing to do.

This week I also went to my first shooting with Marina (Producer for Carolina Money.) Carolina Money is a website dedicated to show and enhance new technology, enterpreneur activities and community growth in Richland and Lexington counties. We went to Cottle Strawberry Farm where Marina had to interview the owner of the farm and the Director of Agritourism in the Department of Agriculture of South Carolina. We also had videographers so Marina just had to conduct the interview and kind of guide the videographers so she could get enough B-roll to edit the video after. It was really fun since I've never been to a strawberry farm before. One thing that surprised me the most was that they have to work the land and plant the seeds all by hand. It is a very difficult and expensive process and they only get to sell their fruits for only two or three months throughout the year.

I needed to get a picture with this. It was too cute

Aditionally, I started to shoot my first video that is going to be about the master control room. I will be doing a series of videos related to ETV to show what's going on inside the different departments and give the audience a quick tour inside ETV.  I'm still getting used to the DSLR camera and work with the audio separately, but I hope to improve along the way as I'll try to shoot as many videos as possible.

See you next time :)
All the Love. x
