My last two weeks as an Intern - Vanessa Ortiz

Hello everybody! This is probably going to be my last post in this blog since today is my last day an intern. These past 10 weeks have been incredible! I had the opportunity to start working on my own videos and developing my stories since the first day and I got to participate in different projects, shootings and live shows. Everyone here at ETV is so nice and welcoming, they are always willing to answer your questions and help you with everything.

Marina, producer for Carolina Money. She is an amazing producer!

Looks like I'm the new host for The Palmetto Scene program
So let me tell you a little more about my last two weeks! As I mention you in my previous post, I was in charge on doing the Intern’s testimonial video and I have to say that this assignment was one of my favorites because I had an awesome time interviewing the interns, and then editing everything together so the video could portray our time here at ETV and the different experiences everyone had.  Here’s the link of the intern’s video if you wanna see it: http://palmettoscene.org/video/2015-etv-endowment-interns  (you should definitely check it out- just saying J)

Besides working on the intern’s video, I had one last video assignment, which was doing a little story about Girls Rock Columbia. This is a camp that helps empower girls and motivates them through music and different workshops. I loved getting to know more about the camp and participate in some of the activities they had.
Believe me, I would have loved to have the possibility to go to one of these camps when I was younger because I just love music so much. The fact that you see a group of girls together who share the same interest for music and the desire to learn more about it while they are also learning about empowerment and self- confidence is absolutely amazing!
I tried to capture the environment and mood of the camp in my video and I have the link to this video here: http://palmettoscene.org/video/girls-rock-columbia-summer-camp-designed-empower-and-educate-girls-through-music

Getting some B-roll for the Girls Rock camp video
I loved the camp so much!!!!

I’m beyond blessed and happy to have had the opportunity to spend my summer as an ETV Endowment Intern and I just want to thank everybody in the content department that helped me throughout my internship, Marina (producer for Carolina Money) for bringing me to her shootings and let me help her with the videos. I also want to thank my supervisor, Don, who gave me the freedom to develop my own videos and trust me with all the assignments I had to complete during my time here.
I have definitely learned so much during these 10 weeks and it let me discover different areas within public broadcasting and broadcasting itself that is going to help me throughout the rest of my career. I had the opportunity to get valuable work experience and to be surrounded by incredible producers and journalists.

Well, I think that’s all from me. Hope you enjoyed my posts J

Week #10

Week #10

It has been a wonderful experience here with ETV's Making It Grow! They are like family to me. I've been blessed all summer with the BEST internship known to mankind. Bias, I know, but until you're put into my shoes, you will then understand why I love my job so much! I appreciate them for teaching me and guiding me in the right direction for the communications field. I pray that the future interns with grasp everything that Making It Grow is teaching them that they will have a humble ear and heart to learn. Thanks Making It Grow for the laughs and fun times traveling. I appreciate the one on one practice with the camera and editing systems. Love you guys! And thank you for 10 amazing weeks with the best!

-Love always

Making It Grow and Luncheon – Vanessa Ortiz

Helloooo!! First thing I have to say is that this week has been a lot of fun!  I’m almost at the end of my eight-week here at ETV, how crazy!
Throughout this week I’ve been working on one of my last videos, which is going to be the Intern’s testimonial video. For this video I needed to interview the seven endowment interns and ask them about their experience and assignments here at ETV.  I interview most of them this week, everybody was so nice and it was really interesting to hear what they have been up to this summer and how was their experience as interns.

ETV Endowment interns with ETV President Linda O'Bryon

 Making It Grow live!

On Tuesday ETV organized an intern’s luncheon where we had the opportunity to meet the ETV President Linda O’Bryon, our supervisors, talk to the staff and even talk in front of everyone sharing our experience and inform them of the things we’ve been doing the past couple of weeks. I enjoyed spending time with my fellow interns since we don’t usually spend a lot of time together.  It was a great experience and I had a good time J

The same day we also had scheduled a visit to the Making It Grow set in Sumter. We arrived there really early since I had to interview Jessica, the intern for Making It Grow. Then, we had a quick tour inside the building and inside the studio where they do the show. Making It Grow is live every Tuesday at 7 pm, so it was a really interesting to see how they run a live show, how they get phone calls and put them on air and more! We even had the opportunity to hear what the director of the show was saying through a headset they gave us. Overall, I had an awesome time there and it made me realize that live television is one thing I would love to do in the future!

Well, that’s all for now!

Veronica- Making It Grow

Yesterday I traveled with some of my fellow ETV Columbia interns to ETV's Sumter offices in order to watch a live taping of Making It Grow. I have worked on Making It Grow’s new website throughout the summer, so it was especially fun for me to peek behind the scenes of one of ETV’s most popular shows.

In less than 24 hours, the sunflower Amanda gave me has already shriveled up. I should watch more Making It Grow.

Vanessa interviewing Jessica.
I was especially excited to meet the host, Amanda McNulty. Television never lies – she is just as sweet in real life as she is on the show. Vanessa, Robyn, and I also got to meet Jessica, who has been interning with Making It Grow this summer.
Vanessa interviewed Jessica as part of a video about the internship experience. My interview was today, and while I tried my best to explain why my internship experience has been so great, I think I'm better off staying safely behind the camera. Keep an eye out for the video in the coming weeks!

Before going to Sumter, all the ETV endowment interns got together for a luncheon with ETV President Linda O’Bryon and our supervisors. It was great to get the chance to spend time with all of the other interns and hear about what they’ve been up to this summer.

Someone in this picture could be the president of ETV in 30 years, when the station will broadcast holograms.

Week 8 - Pictures For The Show!

 Pictures for the Show

I am proud to say that the Making It Grow family really does love their fans and viewers. It’s a lot of steps that they encounter into ensuring that the viewers and fans of the show get their heartfelt experience after every show. We take pictures of everything including the guest and workers of the show. We upload the best ones on our Facebook page and receive a lot of love from our fans. It feels good knowing that the hard work and passion you put into your job is being appreciated. I’m glad that the fans enjoy the pictures that Lacy and I take. We really do admire and appreciate the fans of Making It Grow.

Making It Grow Television Nights-Airing Live-Phone Chats

Last week was week # 7 for me. I had the wonderful opportunity of helping out with the phone operations during the show. We receive so many calls from people all across SC, NC, and GA. When people call to ask questions for the show, I help transfer their calls to Sean, the producer so the guest can ask their questions to the panel. We take down their names and locations on four different documents and send copies to the producer and graphic coordinator of the show. It’s a lot of fun and is an important job on the show. I'm glad I'm able to help out for the show as much as I can and practice everyone's job.

Radio and Editing - Vanessa Ortiz

I think it’s time for another blog! My seventh week here at ETV is about to end and I can’t believe I only have three more weeks as an ETV Endowment intern.
Well these past two weeks have been very busy for me since I’ve been working on my last video for “Inside ETV” and I also had the pleasure to interview Kate McKinney, host of the Classical Music show on ETV Radio. I had the opportunity to sit inside the studio during one of her live shows and see how she hosts her program.  I’ve always been interested in radio so having the opportunity to see a live show was really interesting and inspiring.

Besides working on my videos, I had the opportunity to go on another shoot with Marina. This time she interviewed Cory Jackson, the founder of FundMyPro.  The company is just starting but its goal is to get fans and professional athletes together for the same cause.  I helped Marina during the interview making sure the video and audio were recorded properly.

You can watch my last video about the Idea Lab here if you want J https://www.facebook.com/SouthCarolinaETV?fref=ts

That’s all for now!
